Mr. Cy Gerde

Cy is admitted to practice law before the Indiana Supreme Court, U.S. Supreme Court, the District Courts of the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana, and the United States Tax Court. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Purdue University as a member of the President's Honorary and from Indiana University with a Doctor of Jurisprudence. He served as an Adjunct Professor of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University from 1972-1996 and was frequently recognized for teaching excellence.

With a law practice mainly focused on family, estate, agricultural, municipal, bankruptcy and trial cases, Cy has been recognized by every edition of Who's Who in American Law, as well as being recognized by Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, The National Registry of Who's Who, The Martindale-Hubbell Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, and Who's Who in Executives and Professionals. In 2004 and 2005 Cy was named by Indianapolis Monthly magazine as one of Indiana's Super Lawyers. He serves on the Purdue University Planned Giving Committee.

Cy was a participant in the White House Conference on Rural Policy, 1978, a participant in the White House Conference on Block Grants, 1981, and a participant in the White House Conference on Liability Insurance, 1986.

He was a member of numerous committees of the Indiana Local Government Study Commission, as well as numerous special committees of many other Indiana General Assembly study commissions (author of numerous Indiana statues). He served as a registered lobbyist at the Indiana General Assembly. He also served as Special Counsel for National Association of Towns and Townships, 1976-1986, as well as General counsel for the Indiana Township Association, 1975-1986,

He has been a speaker at the National School Boards Association National Convention, as well as at conferences, seminars and the conventions of Indiana Association of Counties, Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and National Association of Towns and Townships, and numerous civic and student organizations. Cy is a co-founder of Indiana's first locally controlled risk retention group for local governments.

He has served as editor of numerous municipal codes and author or co-author of many municipal master plans and contributed to numerous publications.

REPRESENTATIVE MUNICIPAL CLIENTS:

He has been special or general counsel for twenty units of governments in seven counties in a typical year, in addition to having served as special counsel or general counsel for units of governments in the following Indiana counties; Adams, Allen, Benton, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Fulton, Hendricks, Henry, Jasper, Lake, Marion, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Pulaski, Porter, Posey, Starke, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Vermillion, Wayne, White, and Warren. Cy has represented over two hundred units of government in the State of Indiana, including cities, counties, school boards, and towns and townships.

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS:

Cy was a co-founder and First Vice-President of the National Association of Town and Township Attorneys, past officer of the Tippecanoe County Bar Association, past State Delegate to the Indiana State Bar Association, and present member of Long Range Planning Committee of the Indiana State Bar Association, and member of the American Agricultural Law Association.

Cy has served as Tippecanoe County Chairman of the United Way, Legacy Chairman, Tippecanoe Chapter of the American Cancer Society, Special Consultant to Conner Prairie Historical Museum, President and Trustee of the Carriage Museum of America, Co-Founder, Board Member and officer of the Historic Five Points Fire Museum and NCHS Child Safety Center, and as Sargeant-at-Arms or Delegate at Indiana State Republican Conventions as well as an election, county and precinct official for more than three decades.
